“The Jimi Hendrix of the Andean harp”

New York Latin Culture Magazine

October 25 update: online ticket sales have closed, but tickets will be available at the door!

In collaboration with the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music Bullock Series

Latin jazz harpist Edmar Castañeda is a virtuoso and innovator whose album FAMILY was nominated for a Latin Grammy, with New York Latin Culture Magazine calling him “the Jimi Hendrix of the Andean harp.” He also consulted and recorded harp for Disney’s Encanto, which earned Oscar nominations for Best Original Score and Best Original Song.

Edmar has cemented the harp’s place in jazz with innovative technique and heartfelt creativity from a wealth of formidable collaborations with music titans such as Sting, Bela Fleck, John Scofield, Ricki Lee Jones, Hiromi, John Patitucci, Pedrito Martinez, Marcus Miller, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Ivan Lins, The Yellowjackets, Paco De Lucia, and Paquito D’Rivera.

There will be a pre-concert talk with Matthew Fries (Assistant Professor, Jazz Piano, Jazz Studies – Western Michigan University) and Beau Bothwell (Assistant Professor of Music – Kalamazoo College) at 7:00 PM.

This engagement is supported by a John Stites Jazz Event Award from the John Stites Jazz Artist Organization, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) honoring the memory of John Stites and his passion for jazz music.
