Rootead Youth Drum & Dance Ensemble Showcase

We are excited this year to partner with Rootead for a project funded in part by a Michigan Arts and Culture Council Community Partner grant, which we were awarded on September 22, 2023.

This project brings together our organization and Rootead in presenting a series of drum and dance workshops in Rootead’s teaching venue with members of Chicago-based Ayodele Drum & Dance. These visits will culminate in Ayodele’s full ensemble participation in Rootead’s December celebration events, including a free public performance.

The MACC funds will help support the presence of members of Ayodele for these workshops and final performance on December 16 at the Comstock Auditorium. Learn more about the event »

Rootead is a nonprofit organization that centers on the lived experiences of Black, Indigenous and People of Color by providing connection and support through birth justice, youth empowerment, and community healing. Included in these activities are drum and dance classes for all ages, as well as youth and professional adult drum and dance groups.
