Musician's Notes
I wrote this song for my husband Jonathan and for the city we met and fell in love in. We used to have picnics in Riverside Cemetery, overlooking the Landing, Riverview Drive (the same road we took to see each other every day) and the river when we first started dating.
I tried to recreate the beautifully peaceful scenery of the location and a bit of nostalgia from our happy memories there by creating a song influenced heavily by the torch music of the forties, while conveying a happy, serene musical presence – as if one were lazily floating down a river.
I had an amazing time working on this wonderful project along with my collaborators Jarad Selner and Great Lakes Capture to create what we hope will become a classic love song with a Kalamazoo twist.
About
Born and raised in Kalamazoo – and best served with a glass of whiskey – Megan Dooley has been performing in and out of West Michigan and the U.S. for over 20 years. Her music is an intelligent blend that bridges the gaps of soul, blues, folk and Americana.
Drenched in modern-day grit and served with a generous helping of attitude, Dooley’s strong vocal melodies and inimitable professional whistling, described as “Pure as birdsong, and expressed with great musical aplomb”, have helped her define her musical prowess.
Her most recent album Made In Kalamazoo was the #1 selling album (local and national) for two years straight at Kalamazoo’s Greenlight Music and Video (available for download on all platforms). Recently Dooley earned the 2019 title of “Best Solo Performer” in the region by popular vote, and Revue Magazine named Dooley “First Lady of Kalamazoo’s Music Scene” in 2015.
