The Rabbi and ethnomusicologist participated as a speaker, sharing his insights into melody choice and how it defines us, Jewish music in America, and the Abayudaya music of Ugandan Jews.

In collaboration with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, the quartet performed Haydn’s work based on the Seven Last Words of Christ. Speakers from different faiths presented reflections/meditations between movements. The program was followed by a lively and meaningful discussion.

The dance ensemble from the Kalapriya Center for Indian Performing Arts performed selections from the Bharata Natyam repertory. They also held a workshop at the Epic Theatre that morning.

A third-generation Canadian with Scottish and British roots, Wharnsby’s unique lyrical style, warm voice and knack for penning catchy melodies yielded a rich reception from his listeners. He also presented two workshops at Lincoln Elementary School on November 14.

Led by Associate Director Judy Hanson, the Chicago Children’s Choir performed a diverse multi-faith program at First Presbyterian Church. Hanson also presented a day of clinics for Kalamazoo area middle school students on November 14.

The young virtouso organist wowed MFSM audiences in 2003, and he returned to do the same for our Festival finale concert. He also performed a free concert in Battle Creek; presented a master class for Western Michigan University and other area AGO organists; and presented an educational workshop for youth as part of the Gilmore […]
