“Call Me a Cab”

Written & narrated by Arnie Johnston

Inspired by the Checker Cab ad
Object 2005.15.1

Call me a cab –

I won’t ride a double-decker.

Call me a cab,

As long as it’s a Checker!

I stopped at the bar,

‘Cause my paycheck just got bigger.

Now I can’t drive my car,

‘Cause I drank way more than just a jigger.

So call me a cab

From that nearby taxi-stand,

As long as it’s yellow

With that checkerboard band.

The cab that drove our city,

The city of Kazoo –

It’s practical, not pretty,

‘Cause it has a pretty big job to do.

It’s a Checker that you want

When you check what’s in that taxi rank.

You don’t have to worry

‘Cause it’s built just like a Sherman tank!

So call me a cab –

As long as it’s yellow

With a checkerboard band,

And I’ll be a happy fellow.

Yeah, call me a cab,

Buddy, call me a cab,

That’s right, call me a cab –

You’re a cab! You’re a Checker cab!
