“Yes, there really is a Kalamazoo”

Written & narrated by Elizabeth Kerlikowske

Inspired by the "Yes... there really is a Kalamazoo" billboard
Object 82.125

We drove there holidays on 131

from Grand Rapids past the billboard

that scared me: Repent, the end is near.

And then the avenues

Have, Gave, Fave, Dave, Cave.

Howard Johnson’s blue and orange, clams and

French fries, sit at the counter and order yourself.

Gram Noble’s on Westnedge Hill. The giant tub

of Be-Mo chips waiting for us, the salty cards

when we were through playing Spite and Malice.

And then that Easter, when we opened

the Be-Mo tub, and it was full of wooden blocks.

Peeps could not console us.
