Artist's Statement
I was drawn to the LaZoos cigar label (which I have had a copy of since high school, I believe) and the stoic horses being replaced by motor vehicles.
The opening motive, meant to evoke the flow of the river, leads to musical “yoo-hoos”, laughter, and rising smoke. The horse steps steadily along. As the piece progresses, all these elements get more brittle as ominous lower notes predict and accompany their eventual demise, evaporating in the rising smoke.
